Research Council Introduction

Introduction to Counselling

Counselling is a structured, confidential, and goal-oriented interaction between a professionally trained counsellor and a client, established on mutual trust and respect. Its core objective is to empower the client to explore personal challenges, gain insights, and arrive at self-determined resolutions. The counselling process involves empathetic listening, non-judgmental understanding, and evidence-based strategies that facilitate personal growth, emotional well-being, and decision-making capabilities. This relationship is not merely advisory but transformative, as it fosters autonomy and resilience within the client while navigating life’s complexities.

Adolescence and early adulthood, particularly during high school and college years, mark a critical period of identity formation, emotional volatility, and career exploration. Students experience a spectrum of emotions and transitions, making it essential to have structured psychological and academic support. Recognizing this imperative, Kathmandu BernHardt College established a dedicated Counselling Department that implements a comprehensive counselling framework. The department is designed to support academic excellence, career planning, and socio-emotional well-being. It aims to assist students in developing self-awareness,
